Lumen Christi offers the richness of Catholic Education and tradition to the growing child in an environment where its example is the centre of all learning. Lumen Christi’s School community should experience and promote the gospel values of love, empathy, trust, respect, honesty and fairness.
We aim to develop the whole child spiritually, socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually.
Many parents in our community, who are not Catholic, have told us that it is important that we let you know what is expected of you in a Catholic school.
At Lumen Christi we believe that the best education we can give our children is one where the school and family work together in partnership. We attempt to present a broad and comprehensive curriculum that responds to the stated vision and mission of the school, encouraging the total growth of each child in our care. It is our intention to challenge each child while, at the same time, respecting the role of the family in the learning and growing that makes up a full primary education according to the Catholic Tradition.
In 2013, we began introducing the national curriculum known as AusVELS. This curriculum is in its first phase of development and includes English, Mathematics, History and Science. Work has also begun on including Health and Physical Education, Geography and the Arts. While these areas are being developed we are using the Victorian Essential Learning Standards to guide our teaching.
At Lumen Christi all our Prep children have an older student as a buddy. This program allows our older students to have a leadership role in helping a younger student settle into school life, and it helps our new students to feel more confident in our school environment.
At Lumen Christi our class groups are generally multiage groups. These are sometimes compared to the composite classes that existed when many adults attended school. There are, however, some very real differences between composite and multiage classes.
